I have to giggle at myself when I think of all the things I said I would never do as a parent, only to be now a culprit. Many of my girlfriends have said the same thing and we laugh inside when we hear non parents make the same statements. So in honour of being ‘real’ and admitting that I’m human, here is my ‘guilty’ list:
My house won’t be overrun with toys
Yeah except that having the first grandchild on both sides of the family means you can’t stop toys entering the house from eager grandparents. Also, kids like and need to play. I try to keep it to one corner of the family room, the toddler’s closet and backyard. Doesn’t look like an interior magazine but it is a lived in space (which also causes me to crack it now and then, so hard to nest when you already have a toddler leaving a trail of destruction). But I will no longer judge another woman if she has toys around the house. I know they were likely all put away in her nightly cleaning, only to be dragged out again first thing in the morning by her little one.
I won’t let my kid watch too much TV
ABC 4 Kids has been a lifesaver many times, especially in the following situations:
Both toddler and I are sick.
When I’m cooking and need toddler out of the kitchen for safety reasons such as boiling water.
When toddler has been up all night and I need a rest.
To keep toddler entertained on a rainy day when I’m at my wit’s end.
When I’m trying to have an adult conversation on the phone.
Besides, ABC 4 Kids is educational and it isn’t like he is watching violence, just the occasional Kardashian episode or football match. 😉
My child will never eat McDonalds
But he sure loves the chips! Evidence below 😉
